| Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and Australia's third largest metropolis. Located in the southeastern corner of Queensland, Brisbane is a river city, situated upstream from the mouth of the Brisbane River. The compact city centre is built along the banks of this river.
The city enjoys a near perfect climate and has an average annual rainfall of 1090 mm (most of which falls between December and March), an average of over seven hours of sunshine each day, a humidity level which hovers around 50 per cent for all the year, and a temperature range from 10??C in winter to 30??C in summer.
Brisbane has one of the fastest-growing populations in Australia. Its population more than doubled between 1940 and 1986. Population today is 1.6 million.
Brisbane has many 5 Star Hotels and some great shopping. The Queens Street Mall is the main area for shopping and dining, alternatively you can visit the Markets on Sunday which are held in the Riverside Centre.
In every direction from the city there are things to see and do in a days outing, from Moreton Bay, a beautiful coastal playground dotted with hundreds of islands to the Brisbane Forest Park to the west. The Gold Coast is located about 1 hour to the south and the Sunshine Coast is about 1 hour to the north.
