General English

Great Britain \ Bournemouth \ Bournemouth Business School International

General English courses are available at various levels, from Elementary to Advanced. General English (GE) is a flexible programme of either 20 (GE 20), 24 (GE 24) or 30 (GE30) 45-minute lessons weekly, which can be studied separately, or in association with specialised training. The GE 20, 24 or 30 programme may also form a springboard from which elementary trainees can progress to more specialised training in communication skills. The programme is structured around stand-alone weekly modules, which enable trainees to join or leave the programme at any time. The course is designed to develop all 4 language skills, and to increase trainees knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Trainees choosing the GE 24 option, and whose English is of an Intermediate level or above, will benefit from additional training in academic skills development. Trainees choosing the GE 30 option, whose English is of an Intermediate level or above, will receive additional training in examination technique for the Cambridge FCE or CAE examinations.

    Course Objectives
    The course objectives for this training programme are the following:

  • to develop a sound knowledge of grammar
  • to acquire a broad range of relevant vocabulary
  • to develop effective listening & reading skills
  • to build fluency & confidence in speaking & pronunciation skills
  • to develop accurate skills in writing in a range of formal and informal genres
  • to allow students to integrate into the UK culture & to maximise the learning experience
    In addition, the GE 24 course aims to:
  • further develop academic reading, writing and listening skills
    In addition, the GE 30 course aims to:
  • provide practice for external examinations in Cambridge FCE or CAE
  • practise further speaking & conversation skills

    Course Outcomes
    On successful completion of the programme, participants will have gained the following:

  • greater oral fluency & confidence
  • an increased knowledge of English grammar
  • an increased awareness of appropriacy and register
  • an extension of general vocabulary
  • increased accuracy in producing written and spoken English
  • enhanced comprehension skills in reading and listening
  • improved pronunciation and intonation of spoken English
  • higher level academic skills(GE24) or examination technique (GE30)

  • General English with IT

    Great Britain \ Bournemouth \ Bournemouth Business School International

    The English with IT Skills course comprises 24 (EIT 24) or 28 (EIT 28) lessons weekly. This course is designed to develop all 4 language skills and grammar usage, as well as build vocabulary and develop Academic Study Skills. The 4 IT lessons weekly offer tutor-guided project work, the use of a variety of basic IT software packages and the full ECDL syllabus.
    Entry is any Monday throughout the year, and there is a maximum class size of 12. Individuals are tested on arrival and placed in international classes at appropriate language levels. Entry level is Intermediate (IELTS 5.0) or above.

  • to develop basic skills using Microsoft PowerPoint

    In addition, the EIT 28 course aims to:

  • to further develop academic reading & writing skills

  • Certificate of General English - Intensive

    This General English course of 28 lessons per week gives the opporunity for rapid progress. Electives include the option of further General English, Business English or academic preparation

    KEY FACTS

    - Beginner to Advanced levels. Beginners courses run in Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth, New York, San Diego, Vancouver and Hastings, plus (summer only) Brightnon and Oxford.
    - Course length: 2 to 50 weeks

    This fact track choice is our most popular course. It offers the same thorough approach to language learning as the Standart option but is delivered on a full-time basis (28 lessons per week). It is ideal if you want to make maximum progress in the time you have available. You can also take optional study modules with practical outcomes, which will enhance your fluency or prepare you for your academic and career goals.

    Speacial electives
    These Intensive Course electives are specifically designed to help you achieve your goals: improve your fluency, gain qualifications, prepare for university or train for your career. Your Director of Studies will advise you in selecting electives to suit your needs and interests. Many options lead to practical outcomes such as credits towards Martin College Certificate and Diplomas or internationally recognized qualifications validated by Microsoft or Cambridge ESOL.
    Note: Subjects may vary according to location and time of year. Exam and externally validated certificates are not included in course prices.
