International Business Communications and English Studies

This course is designed for students who wish to develop their Business Communications Skills and improve their general English language abilities at the same time. It is suitable for both experienced business people and those interested in becoming involved in business, whether professionally or academically. The course consists of 10 lessons of Business English with up to 20 lessons of English language.

Course Objectives:

• To equip students with the necessary English language Communication Skills for Business in order to perform better professionally or academically with increased knowledge and confidence

• To provide an insight into concepts and terminology of a range of business areas to enhance their English language skills for the special purpose of business communications

• To improve English language skills so that a good balance of accuracy and fluency can be achieved

Business English Course description

Skill areas covered:

oral and written communications; using a range of media which are widely used in business; taking and giving telephone messages; effective listening, reading, negotiating, persuasion, decision-making and group work.

Topic areas typically include: • Banking, Finance and the Stock Market
• Companies
• Corporate alliances and acquisitions • Customer service
• E-commerce
• Franchising
• Globalisation
• Innovation
• International Trade
• Management
• Marketing and Advertising
• Recruitment
• Retailing

Students typically take an English for Business course at either Intermediate or Upper-Intermediate level, although other levels may be catered for.
