Education in Great Britain. Bournemouth Business School International - Science & Technology - 24-week Higher Certificate Course


The Science and Technology programmes are best suited to participants with a minimum Intermediate level of English on entry (IELTS 4.5), who are seeking a professional skills programme specialising in English, science and technology. The courses are aimed at young professionals and students who are seeking a career or further study science, technology and engineering-related fields and require proficiency in English. These courses lead to BBSI and NCFE awards.
Higher Certificate
A 24-week (2-term) higher certificate course (CST 24) comprises 26 lessons weekly. Depending upon their language entry level and previous knowledge, students can follow one of 2 options:
Option 1 comprises Term 1 and 2 of the diploma course, ie English communication skills, plus a foundation programme in physics, biology and chemistry. The language entry level is IELTS 4.5.
Option 2 comprises Terms 2 and 3 of the diploma course, ie English communication skills, and science and technology. The language entry level is IELTS 5.0.
Option 1 includes BBSI and NCFE awards. Option 2 leads to additional NCFE certification

Course Objectives
-to develop confidence and fluency in the language beyond intermediate level
-to build appropriate vocabulary and foundation in business, science and technology
-to develop sound, practical communication and presentation skills
-to develop a sound understanding and awareness of cross-cultural issues relating to science and technology
-to prepare students for university degree courses in science and technology-related fields
-to prepare students for the IELTS examination
-to prepare students for the optional ECDL qualification
Learning Outcomes
Students with good attendance and who complete all assignments can expect to achieve a minimum language level of IELTS 5.5/6.0. They will also be able to function effectively in English in a professional environment in the fields of science, technology or engineering, and will have acquired a sound knowledge and understanding of international issues in these fields.
