The Computing and Information Technology programmes are best suited to participants with a minimum Intermediate level of English on entry (IELTS 4.5), who are seeking a professional skills programme specialising in English, computing and IT. The courses are aimed at young professionals and students who are seeking a career or further study in computing and IT-related fields and require proficiency in English. These courses lead to BBSI, ECDL and NCFE awards.

A 12-week (1-term) certificate course (CIT 12) comprises 26 lessons weekly in English language communication skills, computing and IT and the full ECDL syllabus. The course leads to BBSI, ECDL and NCFE awards. The minimum language proficiency for entry is IELTS 5.0.
Course Content
Term 1: Weeks 1-12

    Term 1. Comprising 6 lessons weekly, the specialised elements of Term 1 cover the fundamentals of computing, computers and IT, and includes the following, utilising the WindowsTM operating system:
    word processing (Microsoft WordTM)
    spreadsheets (Microsoft ExcelTM)
    presentations (Microsoft PowerPointTM)
    data base (Microsoft AccessTM)
    Terms 2 - 3. Comprising 10 lessons weekly, the specialised elements of Terms 2 and 3 cover in-depth, advanced aspects of IT and computing in progressive stages, including the following:
    Microsoft AccessTM
    database design
    forms and reports
    queries and SQL
    commands and macros
    business modelling
    computer configuration
    types of computers
    operating systems
    binary system
    programming and languages
    computer networks
    computer viruses
    Internet viruses
    electronic communications
    publishing in HTML
    Web-design theory
    Website-building (Microsoft FrontpageTM) introduction to PhotoshopTM

    Learning Outcomes
    Students with good attendance and who complete all assignments can expect to achieve a minimum language level of IELTS 5.5/6.0. They will also be able to function effectively in English in a professional IT environment, and will have acquired a sound knowledge and understanding of international issues in the fields of computing and IT.
